What are you doing today?
Gary Vaynerchuk asked that on a recent e-mail blast and, get this, that’s all he wrote. I thought about that and loved it.
First, let me ask you: What are you doing today? How much of your planned time is focused on driving ratings and revenue? If it’s less than half (“Oh, I have a meeting about the traffic system,” “I have to talk to the engineer about the PPM encoder.”), you need to better plan your day.
Then, walk around. Ask that very simple question of your managers, sellers, programming and promotion people, engineers and support staff. Go ahead ... do it.
Watch the reaction and the body language.
It need not be threatening or judgmental ... make sure the tone of your voice is one of curiosity and not “I’m here to bust you.”
Then send me a note and let me know what you learned. You might be surprised.
