All weekend long, I kept finding myself gravitating to the various 9/11 retrospectives, memorials, and documentaries. I was reminded about the emotional connection that is at the core of our attraction to our listeners.
I hope your station honored this solemn day on YOUR air.
For many of us, particularly in music radio, we are very focused on the “feel good” approach yet, we may miss making that emotional connection by reflecting what our audience is thinking about, even though it may not be all “feel good” material.
Think about that going forward.
Does your station....
- Match the emotion on air of a Monday morning and a Friday afternoon? It’s different.
- Does your station embrace local causes and respond to local emergencies as you should?
- How many times this year have you truly, I mean really, served your community by going beyond airing a PSA for a local event?
Strive every day to make that emotional connection and you will be better (and more responsible) in the long run!
