Summer interns ... sure, we all get 'em, but I wonder if you even meet them. Do you know what they are doing at your stations? Are they just "go-fers" for your PD, or are we taking the time to give them a well-rounded snapshot of the work we do? At our stations, we never commit to bringing an intern in unless we can commit the time to show them the ropes. We schedule time with every department head. We find out what THEY are interested in and then try to help them along the way. It makes a difference; three of the last four interns we've had, have been hired part-time and then one went on to join us full-time upon graduation. Give it a try!
