Sadly, research these days is a luxury...
So, what are you doing to engage and get feedback from your listeners? There are lots of tools available to you that, given, may not have the controls with a $25,000 music test, but still you are getting feedback.
- Online music test – create incentives and promote for listener participation. True you will most likely only be talking to your core listeners, but at least you have some perspective. Just put in necessary controls, inasmuch as you can, to control the sample
- Surveymonkey.com can you help you probe with some perceptual questions and you can send invites to your database for participation rather than recruit on the air
- Take a laptop to station events and have a survey set up, or current music clips and ask people to take five minutes to participate for a premium or gift certificate.
- Or, rock it old school like we used to.....invite a 12-15 person focus group to the station for pizza and a discussion.
Despite the economics, getting feedback is crucial....jsut be careful what you do with it.
