Old School Social Media!
Probably the most-discussed topic going around in our industry concern issues/opportunities with social media. While that's all well and good, don't forget Old School Social Media:
- Does your station maintain a database that can be activated based on what your listeners like? If you know they like The Eagles, do you send them an e-mail letting them know about the just-booked stadium show?
- Happy birthday! Speaking to that database ... at one of our stations, each morning, we get a printout of all of our listeners' birthdays on that day and we divide that list up among the talent and they make personal phone calls to those listeners wishing them a Happy Birthday. They LOVE it!
- Is your promotional staff and talent truly engaging listeners at station remotes and events, or are they sitting behind a table waiting for people to come to them? I don't allow chairs at our remotes so our people are up and reaching out!
- Do you have a comment line where you openly ask listeners to call and offer suggestions? People love hearing themselves on the radio. Or, perhaps a "take it to the streets" feature where listeners can comment on issues of the day.
You get where I'm going with this ... Don't miss the obvious opportunities.
