Here's an intern task for the day.

Have them sit in front of a computer and visit popular local-based lifestyle websites - including local TV news sites. Have them catalog who is advertising on these sites - especially local advertisers.

Then send them around to pick every free publication that they can get their hands on.

Whether it's a lifestyle paper, specialty publication, entertainment paper, or something specific to your market, go get them ... get them all.

Then have your interns make a list of every single advertisement contained within.

Then give both lists to your sales manager to determine which of those are legitimate targets for your station and assign them out.

These are businesses that are currently advertising. so they know the importance ... they just don't know they should be advertising with you!
