Are you happy with your overall compensation in 2008? As a GM, if you are on track to miss your bonus, this may be a good time to assess the formats, talent, sales staff and office personnel. No revenue growth this year? Perhaps it's time for a change in overall strategy. Radio stations have been managed the same way (overall) for the last 10 years. The world is changing ... are you? Over the next few weeks, we will examine the changing role of station management in the face of technology changes within the industry and the medium in general. Join us for the most informative Joe GMs yet. Coming soon to All Access. Have a great weekend!

Has your air staff taken all the vacation time coming to then in 2008? This is your last chance to make them take it until the second week of December. No air staff should be taking vacation time during the Fall book. Don't give your audience a chance to sample the competition when your main air talent vacation. Take it now, or play till Christmas. They are the varsity team, and you can't afford them being away.

Labor Day Weekend is coming. This week we will focus on what it means to a GM running a cluster of stations. It's more than a holiday; it's a change in attitude. Sales people are either going to be happy with this year's compensation, or start looking for a better opportunity. Now is the chance to beef up your department for next year. Is there an "A" seller across the street with all the relationships? Make the move on them now, and cash in next year.

The upcoming Labor Day weekend may bring format changes to your market. If you want to have a better 2009, and the format on one of your stations did not perform up to your expectations, Labor Day weekend is the last chance to make changes for the results to reflect revenue options in 2009. Your competition knows this, too. Making format changes closer to the Fall book may be too late. This is the weekend to make them.
