The Este Lauder cosmetic company has found a new way to connect through social media. Last Friday at Bloomingdales in New Yor,k they kicked off a promotion offering free makeovers at some department store cosmetic counters. As part of the free offer they produce digital photos of the makeovers. They e-mail the photos to the "madever" people so they post them online in whatever social network they are using.
After the kickoff in New York they are planning to extend it to Macy's, Saks and other Bloomingdale stores in Southern California, Miami and Chicago. I'm sure it will then move into other markets.
I'm assuming the Este Lauder logo will be prominently displayed in the photos' background. It is a great way to create viral recognition.
Can you think of a way you could do the same type of thing? Digital photos at your classic car show ... at your concert ... with stars at a meet and greet. You can go to any location, put up a sign, take digital photos, and e-mail them to your listeners. There are millions of people looking for pictures of themselves to post online. Some of those pictures could have your logo in them!
