Are you going to the NAB in "Lost Wages" (Las Vegas) this weekend? Although many consider this a "TV" convention, it may not be a bad idea to look at the business beyond just radio. There is a technological revolution going on out there. Read, see, learn and apply to your career/station. We are in such a small community and tent to get blinded by all the changes going on. It's time to think outside the band. Have a great weekend!

Are your best employees (not just the jox) contractually bound to your station? Many upper-management types work without an employee agreement. If a competitor comes after them, you have few alternatives if there is nothing in writing. You can't expect loyalty if the company is not able to commit to its best employees.

I am amazed at the outpouring of community from Boise, Idaho Top 40 KSAS-FM. The PD Steve Kicklighter is staying awake on the air for 175 consecutive hours to raise awareness of child abuse. This is what local community radio is all about. Check it out at www.1033kissfm.com. This is one of the reasons we got into broadcasting to begin with; it should be in all of our collective DNA. Advertisers appreciate this more than CPP and rankers.

The FCC is accepting comments regarding the subject of localism. Do you think your station should be staffed 24/7? How do you feel about serving the community as a licensee? All Access resident lawyer and columnist Gregg Skall has the full background and information in the Sales and Management section of AllAccess.com. The FCC said that it wants to hear from broadcasters, but it can only take your views into account if you provide them as comments in the official docket. As of this past weekend, there have been a little over 85,000 comments submitted in this docket. You can read them all at:

Is it me, or does the RAB initiative of Radio 2020 seem like decades away? http://www.rab.com/public/pr/pr_detail.cfm?id=429. With all the changes in consumer habits regarding media, as a GM, one feels like we need to move faster than that. Am I alone here?
