You fixed the programming on that little AM station that had no billing in 2007. Now, do you now have a focused sales effort to match the programming focus? We can no longer have non-revenue assets in the cluster. Corporate is going to call you on it this year.

The 2007 annual Miller Kaplan should now be in. Check your conversion ratios to see how much money you may have left on the table on '07. Growing share in a down economy is admirable, but what is the plan to grow market revenue this year? (Hint, it's online, not just on-air.) 2008 is not going to be pretty. If you are one of the GMs to grow revenue, not just share, you are the hero!

Here is a housekeeping tip. It's time to review the public file; quarterly programs should be set and placed in the file by now. Don't forget, it needs to be available online, too! (On your website.)

The Fall books are rolling out. There will be stations changing formats before the Spring book. Are you vulnerable? Can your leading station defend a direct competitor? Ask your PDs for their format attack contingency plans. If they don't have one, have them put one together and on your desk by Monday morning.

In most areas of the country, today is Martin Luther King Day. It may be slower than usual, so use the time to catch your breath and figure your online strategic plan. The Internet revenues are growing at 30% per year and the money will go to the station(s) that put up the most compelling content. Pix of your jocks (no offense) will not cut it anymore. Every station should have a digital camcorder ready to run when "life" happens in the station.
