The financials for Q3 should be done by now. How did we do? Are expenses in line with goal? How about collections YTD? Make sure your balance sheet is totally cleaned up for the final year-end push. By now, it should be pretty clear as to how you are going to end 2007.

Halloween is the second-most-popular holiday of the year. Revenue opportunities should be final by now. Are all the remote vans ready to hit the street? That's where your audience will be. You need to be, too!

Lateness, be it on-air, in sales meetings, for appointments, at any time causes an erosion of trust. Each person on your staff is expected to return calls, reply to e-mails, get reports in on time. The office hours should be followed to the letter. If people see others get away with it, they will assume you don't care. Enforce the policy equally. No favorites.

What if your PD resigned today? Who would replace him/her? Is there someone on staff? Are there willing candidates in the company? Identify them and make it known for futures. Don't wait till the manager leaves. Always have a mental bench to draw from.

Good morning! Just back from the NAB in Charlotte. Nice city, I'm glad the NAB gave us a break from the more expensive locations. I also want to recognize the station of the year, WWL Radio/New Orleans (Entercom) for its Katrina coverage and service to the community. If a major storm leveled your city, what kind of effort would your cluster be capable of? Clearly, this is what local is all about. No hurricane necessary.
