Do you have an on line platform? Are you happy with it? How is it different from the 20 other stations in the market. The look of your web site will be compared to national brands. As a local radio station, your on line platform will become a bigger opportunity for revenue, but, only if it looks good and interacts with your listener in an entertaining way. The key to success will be more than jock pix and top news headlines. Streaming is a must. Think of it as another transmitter. It is!

Yesterday we spoke of the political opportunities with the upcoming primaries and 2008 presidential elections. Planning on buying TV in the fall? If you are in a hotly contested state, and the primaries are in Q1-2008, you may have a tough time getting on. Check local fall avails now. Book the time you want. Otherwise, you may be advertising in the Sunday 4am religious programming on the local home shopping affiliate.

Political advertising is going to be BIG between now and the 2008 presidential election. Planning will be the key to taking advantage of this significant cash (in advance) opportunity. The TV stations will fill up quickly, and so will your News/Talk station. Do you know all the rules regarding lowest unit rate? Call the lawyers....it's time for a refresher course. More tomorrow.

Standby for the dog days of summer. Vacations, hot weather (in the West for sure!) and holidays make for a less intense environment. Is it time to take it easy? No way! Budgets, release of the Spring Book, and prep for the Fall book are right around the corner. Planning for the Fall? Now is the time.

Last week a major radio company decided they were no longer going to do remotes. Should you cut off revenue from remotes? Ask yourself these questions,
- Is the air staff properly dressed when going out?
- Are all the technical equipment and vehicles looking clean and in good working order?
- Does the remote sound interesting?
- During the remote, are the personalities genuine, interested and helpful?
- Are there signup sheets for the station database?
- Is there a contest or promotion associated with the appearance?
- Do the prizes reflect the "bigness" of the station?
- Is there a post-remote sheet for the client to fill out? How did they feel about the remote?
If there are too many "No's" associated with the above questions, then it may be time to re-invent the entire remote platform. It may be time to leave a better impression for radio, your company and the station.
