Now is the time to plan Summer promotions. Here's another budget tip. Don't spend needless money on concerts and promotions that lose money. Each promotion should be looked at as a revenue & cash flow generator. The staff is under great pressure on the day of the event. The margin of profit should equal or exceed your overall cash flow margin. Don't accept the "we lost money but it's good for promotion" stuff. There is no ratings proof it wins.

How is the quarter going? Before we tackle Q2 let's make sure Q1 is closed. Are your collections over 90 days addressed? If you missed the revenue in Q1 there is plenty of time in the year to make it up. but it won't happen doing the same old "spots and dots" sales. Brainstorm a specific plan to make it up.

Going to the NAB ? (Vegas) Plan ahead. Make sure you visit the national rep (they are usually there), potential vendors, employee candidates, and trade leaders. Make your visit productive. Bring aspirin, get rest this week. (I'll be there, look for me in the lobby saying "when ja get in?")

What does the merger of the two Satellite companies mean to you? Nothing. There is no reason why there should be any focus on them at all. Why? Do the math, with 14 million combined listeners, broken out over 250 stations divided by the number of listeners per station, divided by the number of metros in the US equal less than a 1.0 share in your market. Still worried?

Here's one of those regular reminders we do every now and then. Have an opening? Has it been posted? Your web site, sister stations, and community leaders all MUST be contacted with the information. (unless you are promoting from within). Make a sincere effort. The FCC is issuing fines for non-compliance.
