Quick Response codes and their distinctive square shape with bar code-like features have become a key source of marketing, and their use is growing fast. The codes are designed to be used by consumers - you and me - rather than by store clerks or inventory control specialists. The idea is that you download a QR reader to your mobile phone and, using the phone’s camera, “read” the QR code to be quickly connected to more information about the store or product, or to get a coupon good for a discount on a product or service. Here are some of the more popular uses:
- Magazine ads - Readers scan the code, taking them to a website to learn more about a product, or to get a coupon.
- Retail window displays - Scan the code and get an instant coupon.
- Business cards - Scan the code to go to the company website.
- Mobile boarding passes - The paperless ticket has evolved into the paperless boarding pass.
