YouTube has reportedly signed deals with a number of studios, allowing the Google video site to launch its own movie rental streaming service. Sony Pictures, Warner Bros., Universal and Lionsgate are among the studios already lined up, according to The Wrap. Paramount and Fox are conspicuously among the missing major studios.
Since early last year, YouTube has been offering a number of independent movies for $2.99. They started this following Sundance in 2010. The deals with the big studios bring this to a whole new level. There’s still no official word on when the service would launch and how much rentals would cost.
