Pioneer has announced a new in-car entertainment system which interfaces with the iPhone 4 and the iPod Touch 4G. It's a touchscreen unit that allows the user to plug in his/her device and interact with the Pioneer AppRadio rather than fumble with the iPhone or iPod Touch while driving. Users will be able to listen to content from the device, make hands-free calls and even use the GPS function.
Pioneer is also stressing the safety factor. The idea is to get the driver to put away - or plug in - the mobile device while driving. One key feature is that, once connected, the mobile device's screen will be locked out unless the car's parking brake is engaged. AppRadio is expected to be available in the next couple of weeks. It will retail for about $500.
