Apple’s 5th iteration of the iPhone is scheduled to come out in September, a launch scheduled to coincide with its iOS 5. Some details are emerging about what will be included in the new iPhone. All of these are rumors, of course, as Apple is notoriously tight-lipped about its new products. The first debate is about what Apple will call the new phone. Most observers expect the phone to be called “iPhone 4S” or “iPhone 4+” and not "The iPhone 5." The speculation is that it will include some important refinements and upgrades, but that it is not being considered by Apple as an entirely new phone. Still, there are some substantial improvements rumored to be in the works:
- Redesigned housing with a tapered shape
- 8-megapixel camera (up from the current 5-megapixel)
- Faster processor, the A5, the same one that powers the iPad 2
- Bigger screen, taking up almost the entire front of the phone
- Universal version, allowing the same phone to run on the competing GSM and CDMA technologies
