Spotify Watch Continues

Despite rumors to the contrary, Spotify has not yet launched in the US. They are still waiting to sign a deal with Warner Music Group; deals with the other 3 majors are done. Speculation that the Warner deal will be done any day now may be why Spotify recently talked about an imminent U.S. launch on its own website. Attention now turns to how Spotify will do in the US.

Spotify claims 1 million subscribers in Europe and over 7 million active users. All Things Digital reports that an internal Spotify presentation predicts that the service will have 50 million U.S. users by the end of the first year! Spotify is counting on two things to drive usage in the US: a tight integration with Facebook and lots of free press coverage.
