Strike another blow for cloud-based delivery, Ford has announced http://www.dmwmedia.com/news/2011/07/29/ford-ejects-cds-welcomes-app-developers that it's starting to phase out CD players in some of its cars. The plan is to no longer offer CD players as standard equipment in selected models. CD players won't die for a long time though, as Ford will continue to offer them as optional equipment in these cars. And, in fact, many models will continue to have CD players as standard equipment.
Ford will continue to develop its SYNC system. SYNC is Ford's digitally-enabled entertainment system that allows access to cloud-based services, GPS and more. Another step in the development is that Ford has announced that they will be making the SYNC APIs available to app developers.
