Tablet Growth Projections

Gartner's recent projections for tablet growth project worldwide sales to reach over 69 million units this year, a 5-fold increase from 2010. 47 million of those are projected to be iPads, which means that the iPad's market share will fall from 84% to just over 68%. Gartner says that 2015 will be the year when Apple's dominance will be seriously challenged by Android.

The Gartner crystal ball predicts Apple will sell almost 140 million iPads, but will only have 47% of the market. Android will jump to 113 million in the same yea, good for 38%. The Gartner numbers jibe with most other analysts and the sales figures that show tablet sales accelerating rapidly, while sales of desktop and laptop PCs drop.
