Some interesting research <http://www.businessinsider.com/chart-of-the-day-what-is-4g-2011-1> has been done about 4G mobile service and customer perceptions of them. Evidence points to the fact that the average customer really doesn’t know what 4G is, wheat the benefits are, or whether they have 4G or not. All of this is why mobile carriers are spending so much time and money trying to educate users about the benefits.
A study from Retrovo <http://tinyurl.com/63kzw6k> , a consumer electronics site, conducted a study that showed that many iPhone customers mistakenly believe they have a 4G iPhone, even though there is no such thing. The 4th generation iPhone (“iPhone 4”) does not connect to 4th generation mobile networks (“4G”). Retrovo’s study showed that 34% of iPhone 4 owners think they have a “4G iPhone.” Confusion of the names Is obviously an issue, but a substantial numbers of Blackberry owners and Android owners also believe they have 4G devices. In the case of Android, some of them are right, as there are some Android phones that do connect to 4G.
