Nielsen has some interesting new numbers about the growth of mobile and mobile apps compared to websites. Nielsen's data shows that consumers prefer mobile apps to websites when using their mobile devices. That's not totally surprising considering the fact that mobile apps are specifically tailored to fit the smaller screens of mobile devices, while most web sites are still only designed for larger screens.
According to Nielsen's Smartphone Analytics, Android users, for example, spend an average of 56 minutes a day with apps and the web on their mobile devices. Two thirds of that time is spent with apps. And more significantly, a small number of apps accounts for a huge percentage of the app time. The Top 10 Android apps - that's the overall Top 10 Android apps, not each individual user's Top 10 - accounts for 43% of the time that Android users spend.
