Nielsen's Smartphone Analytics study shows that mobile apps are increasingly the conduit of choice for smartphone users to get entertainment, news and productivity. Nielsen's analysis of Android users shows that 2/3 of users' time is spent with mobile apps, while 1/3 is spent on the web. Nielsen will dive deeper into the numbers in a webinar tomorrow.
With the app-to-web ratio swinging further in favor of apps, it's essential that businesses, especially media and entertainment companies, get their apps onto users' phones, and that they produce robust content. And as tablets proliferate in the market, expanding the versatility of mobile devices, creating specialized tablet apps will become critical too.
