Netflix: Good News

Netflix has been hit with a string of bad publicity recently. Earlier this summer the company faced the wrath of many of its customers when Netflix announced a price increase, in effect separating the mail-order DVD business from the fast-growing streaming business. Then, just as the pricing structure went into effect, Starz announced they would not renew their deal with Netflix for streaming content.

But while it doesn't make up for the bad publicity and hurt feelings among some customers, Netflix has some good news to report as well. Netflix has launched in Latin America and the Caribbean, bringing their count to 43 countries. Brazil is particularly important due to its size and the rampant piracy reported there. One difficulty for Netflix is that the average download speed in Brazil is about half what it is in the U.S., a problem throughout Latin America.
