Twitter Tweeters and Others

In September, for the first time, Twitter released measurements of how many people actively use the service. The impact of Twitter is much greater than just among its active users. They classified their users into 4 groups:
·         TWEETERS - 60,000,000 registered Twitter users who logged in at least once in the last month & tweeted something (active tweeters generate 230,000,000 tweets per day, which is up 110% from the beginning of 2011)
·         VOYEURS - 40,000,000 who logged into Twitter in the past month, but didn’t tweet anything themselves
·         READERS - According to Google Analytics, 400,000,000 people have visited Twitter.com in the past month (which would include both the Tweeters & Voyeurs) to see Twitter content
·         THE UNCOUNTED MASSES - Who see tweets in the media

So, the value of Twitter goes well beyond what its base user numbers would indicate, reinforcing the importance of the service both culturally and in terms of business.
