Amazon has entered the tablet market with its Kindle Fire, an Android-powered device with a 7-inch screen and a price that’s less than half of the iPad. This initial Amazon tablet is expected to be an entry-level model to get Amazon into the game prior to the holiday season. In the meantime, they’re working on a larger model with a 10-inch screen that they expect to introduce sometime in 2012.
Without 3G connectivity, users will rely only on Wi-Fi connections to access the Amazon store. Amazon is touting the fact that users will have access to 100,000 movies and TV shows and 17 million songs. Users’ content will be stored on Amazon’s servers and automatically backed up through cloud-storage services.
