On the heels of Amazon’s rollout of the Amazon Kindle Fire tablet comes word of the selling power of tablets. According to the Wall Street Journal, Forrester Research says that the conversion rate of tablet users is higher than that of PC users. The conversion rate is a simple equation that divides visitors to a site by the buyers. Standard conversion rates are about 3% for PC users. But tablet shoppers convert at 4-5%.
That small percentage adds up to a big number...in dollars. Mobile shoppers (of which tablet shoppers are currently a small subset) account for a relatively small percentage of online shopping, but that’s quickly changing. Marketers are seeing the expected natural growth in overall mobile sales being accelerated by the adoption of tablets. And the effect of the higher conversion rate is causing markets to more rapidly optimize their mobile apps for tablet usage, as well as smartphones.
