PayPal Access

Mashable reports that eBay is launching a new service called PayPal Access, which it hopes to become a universal registration and login account. Retailers who agree to participate will be letting a user's PayPal account also serve as the user's account for that retailer. It's somewhat similar to the way that users can log on to other sites using their Facebook accounts.

Retailers will have less direct control over the user, but the tradeoff is that it makes it easier for the user to make a purchase. Theoretically, at least, it may make the user's credit card information safer.
