Multiple Profiles for Tablet Devices

Most tablet devices have been set up like smartphones, with the idea of one device, one user. However, research indicates that iPads and other tablets are used in a different way. Frequently, multiple people in a household have equal access to the same tablet, much like the typical home PC is used. Zite, one of numerous companies that have built news-reading apps, is releasing a new version that will allow multiple profiles to be set up so that each user can his/her custom set up.

Zite’s research showed that 1/3 of iPad owners share their devices with other members of the household. It also indicates that the number of shared tablets is increasing rapidly. Early adopters may be more likely to have their own device, but as tablets become more mainstream devices, the trend is to share them.
