Amazon made its name as a book retailer. After moving into the world of e-readers - and dominating the market to this day - Amazon recently announced the new Kindle Fire mini-tablet. Close on the heels of that announcement was their debut of an e-book rental service. The Kindle Owner’s Lending Library will allow Amazon Prime customers to borrow books.
Amazon Prime is a $79/year service that adds extra perks to the basic Amazon services. These customers will be able to borrow one book per month from a library of thousands of titles. At least to begin with, this will only be a fraction of the e-books available for sale from the Kindle Store. These books will have full functionality and, at the end of the prescribed rental time, the books will disappear from the reader’s Kindle device.
