Shazam, the most well-known music identification service, recently reverted from a paid service back to a free one. The move came in response to increasing competition from other services, but also as a part of Shazam’s changing business model. Shazam is hoping to lock in new revenue streams with deals with TV producers to make special content available. The first of those deals is with USA Network and its Covert Affairs series.
Overt Affairs fans will be able to access various kinds of content through Shazam, including mobile wallpaper, photos and videos. Additionally, they’ll be able to purchase show merchandise directly from their phones. This is the first in what is expected to be a series of such deals between Shazam and NBCUniversal networks.
