Americans spent $11.4 billion shopping on November 25th, or Black Friday. Despite well-publicized incidents such as a woman pepper spraying other shoppers, a significant chunk of the sales were online. According to estimates, 24.3% of Black Friday sales, or $2.77 billion, came from online sales. Black Friday was quickly followed by a much newer holiday spending tradition, Cyber Monday, the first Monday after Thanksgiving. This year's Cyber Monday, November 28th, resulted in $1.25 billion in online spending. That's an increase of 22% from 2010's Cyber Monday.
Combined the online spending for Black Friday and Cyber Monday adds up to just over $4 billion, a new record for both dates. Read more about the new Cyber Monday record from Digital Media Wire.
