Parking Meter Tech

Over the past couple of years Southern California is awash in new parking meters that accept credit cards. In many parts of the LA area, drivers no longer have to go digging for loose change; the new meters accept most major credit cards. Now, Santa Monica is jumping forward with a new twist, cancelling leftover time. The new smart meters being installed by Santa Monica will sense when you leave a space with time remaining on your meter.

Even worse, the meters will not allow you to add more time than the posted legal limit. On the plus side, the meters will be able to send you a text message to let you know that your meter is about to expire. The LA Times has more, including a demonstration video.
