YouTube to Launch Paid Subscription Channels

It was reported this week that YouTube will be launching its much talked about subscription model for video channels soon, potentially as early as this week. According to Mashable, about 50 specialized channels with premium content will be included in the service, with subscriptions starting as low as $1.99 per month. In addition to being another source of income for YouTube, profit from the subscriptions will help fund a "wider range of content such as television shows and films".
