Why Video-On-Demand Should be Good for Cable

Many in the cable industry have been resistant to the video-on-demand (VOD) trend. When viewers stray from network and basic cable channels, providers worry that crucial advertising revenue will be lost from lack of viewership, and that consumers will be less willing to pay for extra cable channels. But at least one person in the business, Time Warner CEO Jeff Bewkes, has recognized that VOD might actually be good for cable. He believes that rise of VOD has been a positive development for the business, and that HBO Go (which is owned by Time Warner), is "a model for how VOD works for an entertainment company".
