New Daft Punk Album Debuts On iTunes

This week the highly anticipated new Daft Punk album, Random Access Memories, debuted as a free stream on iTunes, a week in advance of the album release. This was an incredibly successful move for both the band and iTunes – for Daft Punk, the early release "reduces friction and criticism". For iTunes, it was an opportunity to force every music blog in the world to link to their store, and bring anyone who clicked that link directly to a convenient place to purchase the album (from them).
