Amazon's Approach to Music Licensing

When Apple launched their very own music streaming service this week, the service's licensing terms incited much discussion. The company approached labels for only small portions of their catalogs, with the end result being a much smaller overall music offering from their streaming service (about 1 million tracks – most other streaming services offer up to 20 million). Billboard posted an interesting article exploring why other services might want to follow Amazon's lead on licensing strategy and "experiment with licensing selections of catalogs rather than full catalogs."
