Amazon Entering the Movie Business

Amazon announced this week their plans to enter into original feature films production -- just 5 months after Netflix announced that they would be releasing their first original feature film this year. Amazon plans to produce and acquire movies that will be shown on the big screen before moving to their Amazon Prime streaming service. According to Amazon Studios Head of Production Ted Hope"Whereas it typically takes 39 to 52 weeks for theatrical movies to premiere on subscription video services, Amazon Original Movies will premiere on Prime Instant Video in the U.S. just 4 to 8 weeks after their theatrical debut".
