In a landmark decision, the FCC today voted for net neutrality, effectively banning Internet providers from selling "fast lanes" to web services and blocking/throttling traffic. Today's decision also reclassified fixed and mobile broadband as a telecommunications service, which means that the Internet will now fall under the same regulations as wireline telephone service and mobile voice. In response to those against net neutrality, FCC chairman Tom Wheeler stated that "This is no more a plan to regulate the Internet than the First Amendment is a plan to regulate free speech."
