Digital Music Revenue Surpasses CD Sales

For the first time ever globally, digital music revenue has surpassed physical format sales. According to a report released this week by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), digital revenue grew in 2014 about 7% - to about 6.85 billion. Meanwhile, physical sales dropped 8%, to about 6.92 billion. But even though streaming has increased significantly in the past year, "downloads still accounted for 52 percent of digital revenue".
