Facebook Launches Livestreaming

Facebook entered the live streaming business last week, adding their own Live feature to their Facebook Mentions app. Mentions is an extension of Facebook which celebrities use to engage with their fans, so for the time being they are the only users with access to the new Live feature. If a celebrity posts a Live stream on Facebook, it will show up in the News Feeds of their followers. According to Mashable, "Offering an in-house solution made sense for the second-most trafficked site in the world, notwithstanding a recent statement by Meerkat's CEO that Facebook was kind of irrelevant" for live media."
