YouTube Acquires Bandpage

Late last week YouTube acquired the direct-to-fan online commerce service Bandpage for a reported $8 million. This has led many to believe that YouTube and Bandpage (who has worked in the past with similar services like Vevo, Spotify, Rdio, etc.) will be working exclusively together in some degree in order to help artists grow their fan base. According to Bandpage founder J Sider, "Our collective goal remains the same: to grow an open network of digital music services, develop intelligent new tools for managing/distributing artist content and commerce, and create new revenue opportunities for all musicians, on YouTube and beyond."
