Podcast Listening Metrics

Edison Metrics and Trident Digital released their annual research on podcasts today, revealing some interesting metrics on the evolving listening habits of consumers. Some of The Podcast Consumer report's bigger conclusions were: 1) 36% of consumers have listened to at least one podcast ever (about 98 million people), 2) there are about 57 million monthly podcast listeners, and 3) 29% of listening happens through a computer, compared to 71% through a smartphone. According to Tom Webster, who presented the report, "Podcasting has been a medium of slow, steady growth. This year, we saw a spike we haven't seen before."
