This week a federal court ruled that the Internet is defined as a utility, not a luxury - a major victory for supporters of net neutrality, which prevents broadband companies from blocking or slowing Internet content from users. This was also a major victory for the FCC, whose broadband rules were upheld. Chairman Tom Wheeler said in a statement that "After a decade of debate and legal battles, today's ruling affirms the commission's ability to enforce the strongest possible internet protections - both on fixed and mobile networks - that will ensure the internet remains open, now and in the future".
