This week the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) penned an open letter to Congress, leading a push by the music industry to rewrite Internet copyright laws. The move is similar to the RIAA's failed Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) of 2012, which "was abandoned after more than 15 million Americans objected to the bill's attempt to restrict Internet freedom as 115,000 websites staged a massive blackout online." The renewed efforts to challenge the existing copyright laws will likely reignite the SOPA debate, but most think it is unlikely to succeed in any significant capacity.
