Twitter Seeks Out More Live Sports Deals

On the heels of last year's major Thursday Night Football streaming deal with the NFL, it was reported this week that Twitter is looking to make similar live streaming deals with other sports organizations. Sources say that Twitter is in talks with the NBA, Major League Soccer, Turner and others to acquire rights to stream for live sports and events - which could include anything from live game coverage to pre/post-game material. Making these kinds of deals will be tough for Twitter as it subverts the networks' subscription model, but "these transitions have to start somewhere, and if streaming sports and other events works well for Twitter, expect others like Facebook and Amazon and Apple to come calling."
