Twitter announced some significant upcoming changes to the format of tweets this week. Beginning on September 19th, media attachments and quoted tweets will no longer count towards the platform’s 140 character limit and usernames will also no longer count towards this limit when used at the beginning of replies. Twitter says that the changes, which should give users a significant boost in flexibility when composing tweets, will keep tweets concise while allowing for improved content as the "140 character limit will now center around the message itself - not the media attached to it."
