Spotify's New Personalized Playlists

This week Spotify introduced listeners to Daily Mix - a new infinite, constantly-updating playlist based on each users individual taste. To create the new playlist, Daily Mix uses Spotify's taste analysis data science to combine a shuffle of songs it knows that each user likes with new, Discover Weekly style recommendations. According to Spotify's senior product lead Matthew Ogle, "For every user, we create a picture of their taste, which just looks at all the artists they play and the similarity distance between those artists and try to find some natural groupings".
