Snapchat announced the end of ad sharing with media companies who supply content for the Discover section of their platform. Instead of sharing ad revenue, the company will now pay content partners a flat license fee up front, and then keep any ad revenue for themselves. This also means that instead of allowing publishers to sell ads against their own content, Snapchat will employ their own ad team to sell these ads. According to Recode, "The new terms also illustrate one of the truths media companies must face as they increasingly rely on a "distributed content" strategy, where they hand their stuff over to big platforms like Facebook and Snapchat instead of keeping it on their own properties: If you want to play on someone else's turf, you have to play by their rules."
