Big news for Nielsen this week - the data/measurement company just announced plans to begin measuring out-of-home TV viewing in places like bars, gyms and hotels. Out-of-home viewing is a big gap in TV ratings measurement - and the new ratings addition will likely greatly benefit new and sports networks like ESPN and CNN, which have a large out-of-home audience. Nielsen is expected to launch the new out-of-home ratings service in April, and it will contain data going back to January 2017. According to sources, "The new offering will launch as a stand-alone service, but Nielsen plans to eventually add the out-of-home data to its national ratings." Read more on the story here.
